Polyprint Samples:

Here are four of my Polyprint samples, I was inspired by a secondary picture I found on the internet of a piece of coral.

My aim was to: make it look similar to the image and to test the print in many ways to see what worked and what didn't, so I could therefore pick out what I would and wouldn't like to use later on in my final piece.

Print 1: I tried blending the block print ink to create a colour that you would associate to the sea (where coral is found) which also links to the microorganisms within that broader subject.

I did this on a piece of cotton to ensure the print would work first try as it is a light and plain with no pattern.

Print 2: This sample was to experiment with a coloured background, I'm not the biggest fan of my colour choices however that's the whole point of testing out on new samples.

This time I chose to paint within the carved outline on the polytile to be able to pick specific areas to paint certain colours. A downside of this sample is that I didn't put enough pressure onto the tile when printing onto the fabric.

Print 3: This is my least favourite sample as the print didn't come out clear.

I do like the patterned background on the thicker fabric as it reminds me of seaweed which links to my topic of microorganisms.

Again I painted in the lines of my tile print however next time I would use greens, yellow and white to see how that turns out as those colours link to the sea and microorganisms more.

The pink, red and white colour scheme I stuck to links to the more known colours people associate coral with.

Finally Print 4:

Here I tested out on a netted piece of fabric and it worked out quite well. The sample came out clear and bold however next time I would like to use some brighter colours to make it more eye catching.
